China opposes all kinds of violence against civilians, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday, as the 10th anniversary of the Iraq War coincided with deadly bombings in the Middle Eastern country.
"China condemns the series of deadly bombing attacks in Iraq recently, which caused heavy casualties," Hong Lei said at a regular news briefing.
He said China hopes relevant parties can strengthen unity in order to safeguard and promote the stability and development of Iraq.
"China consistently supports the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq," said Hong, adding that China advocates compliance with the UN Charter and basic norms of international relations in dealing with regional affairs.
Hong said China supports the reconstruction of both politics and the economy in Iraq and will continue to work with the international community to help Iraq achieve safety, stability and development.
