Can robots take care of the elderly?

Editor's note: The number of people aged 60 or above reached 241 million in China by the end of 2017, accounting for 17.3 percent of the total population, according to the Office of the National Working Commission on Aging. With China's elderly population growing rapidly, some insiders and experts are suggesting that intelligent service robots could play a role in the senior care industry. I believe robots will become the future of elder care. They can provide high quality care without any complaints. As many people are unwilling to take on the job, robot can replace the professional care takers as a multi-functional worker: they can detect the early symptom of any illness, supervise the elderly to take their medicine on time and provide them with companionship.

The iPal robots developed by Nanjing-based AvatarMind Robot Technology Co Ltd attracted the attention of many visitors at the World Robot Conference in Beijing on Aug 15, 2018.
