Chinese tech firm Xiaomi Group plans to roll out an end-to-end large model for autonomous driving by the end of next month, after it amazed the tech world with its first electric vehicle Xiaomi SU7 earlier this year.

Lei Jun, founder and CEO of Xiaomi, said on Wednesday that such a large model will enable cars to autonomously move from one parking spot to another.

Industry experts said that autonomation between parking space is a first try of many carmakers before they can achieve higher autonomous driving capabilities.

Though a newcomer in the automotive industry, Lei said that Xiaomi has successfully delivered 100,000 cars in just 230 days, and would strive for greater presence in the sector.

He made the remarks at the 2024 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit, which kicked off in Wuzhen, East China's Zhejiang province, on Wednesday.

"Xiaomi has experienced every phase of China's internet development and deeply recognizes the nation as a hub for innovation and transformation in internet technologies," Lei said.

He said that the Chinese government has made great efforts to strengthen network infrastructure over the past decades, leading to active participation of internet users and a thriving digital ecosystem.

This, he said, has provided a model for building a community with a shared future in cyberspace.

As artificial intelligence takes the tech world by storm, Lei added that innovation should be "people-oriented" and fulfilling people's aspirations for a better technological life is the driving force behind progress in AI.
