A film about the Red Army's Long March (1934-36) titled Crossing was announced on Friday and is scheduled to be released next year to mark the 90th anniversary of the heroic feat.

The film focuses on the Red Army's four crossings at the Chishui River in 1935, when troops repeatedly crossed the river to break an encirclement by Kuomintang forces.

Guizhou was one of the provinces where the Red Army spent the most time and covered the widest area during the Long March. Crossing was co-produced by the publicity department of the Communist Party of China Guizhou Provincial Committee and other partners.

Producers said the film will adopt a contemporary perspective and new narrative techniques, and will use modern technology to bring the dramatic, legendary campaign to life for today's audiences.
