Under the pretext of combating "drug trafficking crimes", the United States has brazenly launched an attack on Venezuela and forcibly seized its president, Nicolas Maduro, and his wife. Sun Yanfeng, director of the Institute of Latin American Studies, China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, emphasized in an interview with China Daily's #DialogueswithThinkers# that Washington has long viewed Venezuela as a thorn in its side. Faced with domestic issues such as drugs and immigration, the United States is determined to "treat internal problems with external remedies", and by invading Venezuela it has "fired the first shot" for dominance over the Western Hemisphere.
