China's domestic tourism market recorded 325 million trips during the five-day Labor Day holiday, up 3.6 percent year-on-year, according to data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on Thursday.
Total domestic tourism spending reached 185.5 billion yuan ($27.3 billion) during the holiday, a 2.9 percent increase from the same period last year.
The ministry said people's travel enthusiasm has been unleashed, partly fueled by the school spring break in some regions.
During the holiday, 49,400 public cultural activities were organized by cultural centers and public libraries across China, benefiting about 88 million people. Nighttime cultural and tourism consumption remained vibrant. A total of 32,000 commercial performances were held, generating 2.476 billion yuan in box office revenue, up 14.66 percent year-on-year.
The holiday also saw more diversified cultural tourism consumption. Ancient streets and alleys, museums and theme parks were particularly popular. Concerts, music festivals and immersive night tours also drew strong demand, highlighting the growth of the "experience economy".
Scenic spots improved services and introduced customer-friendly measures and benefits during the holiday period.
