Fuyao University of Science and Technology in Fujian province has received approval from the Ministry of Education to launch five new undergraduate programs for the 2026 academic year, bringing its total number of majors to nine, according to the university.
The newly approved programs are future robotics, artificial intelligence, intelligent vehicle engineering, bioscience and digital economy, the university said in a post on its official WeChat account. Among them, the future robotics major is one of the first programs listed under the newly established "interdisciplinary" category in China's undergraduate program directory for 2026.
In 2025, the university received approval for its first four undergraduate programs: intelligent manufacturing engineering, computer science and technology, materials science and engineering, and vehicle engineering.
According to the university, students will complete a general education curriculum during their first year and then choose a specialization from the nine existing programs based on their interests and strengths starting in their sophomore year.
Founded by philanthropist Cao Dewang, chairman of Fuyao Glass Industry Group, with an investment of more than 10 billion yuan ($1.47 billion), the university is a private, nonprofit research institution that began operations in 2025.
Located in Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian province, the university focuses on science and engineering disciplines, interdisciplinary integration and industrial applications, aiming to cultivate top-tier innovative talent for a new era of technological revolution.
