A 5.2-magnitude earthquake jolted Liunan district, Liuzhou city in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, at 9:44 pm Monday, with a focal depth of 8 kilometers, official seismic authorities said.
Tremors were felt across multiple cities in the region, including Nanning, Guilin, Yulin, Laibin, Hezhou, Guigang and Wuzhou.
Preliminary disaster surveys conducted from Monday 9:44 pm to Tuesday 3 am showed that only one person sustained slight injuries, and one unoccupied earthen house collapsed in the quake.
Local emergency management, fire, police, housing, civil affairs and health authorities have launched full-scale rescue operations, disaster inspections and resident relocation work. Power, water supply, gas service, telecommunications and local traffic remain largely stable in the quake-hit zone.
The Guangxi Earthquake Administration said 99 temporary resettlement sites have been set up so far, sheltering over 4,000 residents and relocating a total of 7,000 people.
Wang Kun, head of China Earthquake Administration, held an online work dispatch meeting and ordered intensified seismic monitoring, expert consultations and on-site emergency responses to guard against secondary risks.
