Tesla's complete version of full self-driving technology has not yet got official approval in China, sources familiar with the matter told China Daily on Thursday, but they said progress is under way and regulatory framework for advanced driver-assistance technologies, including Tesla's, may come soon.
Market attention has recently focused on the potential progress of China's regulatory measures for smart-driving technologies, including systems such as Tesla's Full Self-Driving software.
"The full-blown version of FSD is not available in China yet," the sources added.
According to them, Tesla's official post on X that FSD Supervised is now available in countries, including China, just refers to an inferior version of Tesla's FSD, which has already been sent to drivers in China before.
They are not the full-blown version of FSD, not the FSD V14, the sources added.
But a source familiar with the matter told China Daily that progress is under way and an official refinement of regulatory arrangements related to smart-driving technologies in China may come soon.
Industry analysts said any policy adjustment would likely follow existing principles on safety, data compliance and fair market access for both domestic and foreign companies.
Meanwhile, Tesla has kicked off a massive recruitment campaign in China for autopilot and autonomous driving test engineers. According to Tesla's official Chinese job portal, the primary engineering roles are based out of Shanghai's Lingang district, home to Gigafactory Shanghai.
Meanwhile, Tesla has expanded the listings to include flexible opportunities across several major urban hubs, including Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Suzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu, and Wuhan.
