On June 1, 2010, scientific artist Zhao Chuang and science fairy tale writer Yang Yang launched PNSO Scientific Art Projects Plan: Stories on Earth (2010–2070). The initiative leverages scientific art narratives backed by rigorous scientific research to tell the story of the intrinsic relationships among species, environments, communities, and cultures throughout the evolution of life, framing the past, present, and future of the Earth through the lens of human civilization.
To date, PNSO's original works have achieved widespread international acclaim, with many published in top-tier academic journals such as Nature, Science and Cell, and cited by hundreds of media outlets, including The New York Times, Washington Post, The Guardian, BBC, CNN, significantly bolstering the global public understanding of the latest scientific discoveries and developments. PNSO also frequently collaborates with scientific organizations and museums worldwide on exhibitions to promote sci-art education for young people.
Zhao emphasized that scientific art is not a collection of cold, sterile imagery, but rather an aesthetic approach to revealing the order of the world, allowing everyday people to feel the warmth and accessibility of science.
Yang added that rigorous, cutting-edge science serves as the uncompromisable foundation of her stories. To ensure absolute accuracy, she closely tracks the latest research and fully digests the underlying science before weaving it into literature.
The exhibition runs through Aug 31, during which it will host free public education activities, including scientific art lectures and youth creative workshops. Cross-industry opinion leaders, expert, scholars, as well as university faculty and students will also be invited to participate in guided panel discussions.
