China has approved a new batch of on-device generative artificial intelligence services for smartphones, including Apple Intelligence, marking another step in the country's push to expand consumer AI applications under its regulatory framework.
The Cyberspace Administration of China said on Wednesday that it had completed the filing of seven additional mobile generative AI services in accordance with the country's interim rules governing generative AI, which seek to promote innovation while ensuring regulatory oversight.
The newly filed services include Apple Intelligence, Sumsung Galaxy AI, Huawei Xiaoyi, Vivo BlueOnDevice, Oppo AndesGPT, Xiaomi PengPai AI, and Doubao on Nubia smartphones, according to the regulator.
China requires publicly available generative AI services to complete regulatory filing before launch, part of a framework introduced to balance rapid AI development with content security and data governance.
