Nine rescued from landslide in Chongqing

By 14:00 pm on Friday, rescue teams had pulled out nine people from the debris after a landslide occurred earlier on the day in Pengshui Miao and Tujia autonomous county, Southwest China's Chongqing, CCTV News reported.

According to the local emergency management bureau, the landslide happened around 9 am on a riverside section of Hanjia subdistrict in Pengshui, along the banks of the Wujiang River. The rockfall buried several residential buildings and trapped multiple individuals.

Preliminary investigation shows that around 8 am on Friday, community workers issued an emergency warning after discovering sporadic rockfalls. The local authorities organized the safe evacuation of over 60 residents. During the evacuation process, a landslide occurred, burying some individuals, with the specific number to be confirmed.

Following the incident, rescue teams are working tirelessly at the scene, with efforts still ongoing. The exact number of people affected is still being verified.

Later, the Ministry of Emergency Management declared a Level II national emergency response for geological disasters, Xinhua News Agency reported.
