SCO foreign ministers to prepare for Bishkek summit

Foreign Minister Wang Yi will hold discussions with his counterparts at the Meeting of the Council of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Member States to help make comprehensive preparations for this year's SCO summit in Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on Monday.

The meeting will be held in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, from Thursday to Friday. Wang will exchange views with his counterparts on the current international and regional situation, the future development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and cooperation in various fields, Lin said at a daily news briefing.

Noting that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the SCO's founding, Lin said the organization has set an example for a new type of international relations and played an important role in advancing the building of a community with a shared future for humanity, he said.

China is ready to work with all parties to continue promoting the Shanghai Spirit, effectively implement the outcomes of the Tianjin summit, deepen solidarity and mutual trust, and expand cooperation across various fields, Lin said.

Such efforts will enable the SCO to make new contributions to regional peace, stability, development and prosperity, he added.

Lin said Wang will also visit Kyrgyzstan while attending the SCO foreign ministers' meeting.

During the visit, Wang will meet Kyrgyz leaders and hold talks with Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev to exchange views on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of mutual interest, he noted.

Lin expressed the belief that the visit will help the two sides further implement the important consensus reached by their heads of state, deepen high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and inject more positive momentum into efforts to safeguard regional peace and stability and promote common development.
