At the foot of the Yan Mountains in Beijing's Miyun district a commanding view consisting of Great Wall sections and old cypresses, some of which are hundreds of years old or more, sweeps the landscape.
A new museum has added a fresh cultural vibe to the township's serene landscape — Beijing Aoyou Art Museum opened to the public in late September.
Its opening exhibition, The Symbiotic Earth, runs until March 28 and displays oil paintings and sculptures that celebrate the harmony between humans and nature. Outside, on the museum's square, paintings and painted sculptures by the town's teenage inhabitants display their ideas of the future.
The museum is the township's latest effort in collaborating with artists and designers to empower rural culture and tourism.
