Suzhou Creek
The theater adaptation of Suzhou Creek, an international award-winning movie directed by Lou Ye, will be staged. The movie was never released in China, and tells the story of a delivery man searching for a woman along the Suzhou Creek in downtown Shanghai. Playwright Zhao Lian managed to capture the clash between reality and "the fairy tale of love". The greatest challenge in creating the play is to present the narrative onstage, which was done successfully through the camera lens. The play will star He Ping and Li Li (pictured).
7:30 pm, Tues-Sun, March 27-April 5; 2 pm, April 6. Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center-Art Theater, 1F, 288 Anfu Lu (Road), Shanghai. 021-6473-0123.
Film goes musical
A musical adaptation of the film Papa, Can You Hear Me Sing is set to hit the stage. The play Glass Anatomy is being produced by Toy Factory from Singapore, featuring hit songs that were popular among the Chinese community all over the world. The musical will tour the country after the Chinese premiere in Shanghai. The film by Bak-Ming Wong was released by Taiwan in 1983, telling a story of a deaf veteran and his adopted daughter. Besides the love story and family drama, the film's success is largely thanks to the music composition by Shou-Chuan Lee.
