The upcoming Shanghai Book Fair-an acclaimed mainland event-will likely see less craze among readers for lifestyle and personal finance books.
In the past few years, book launches and reading sessions related to the fields-especially "teaching people how to invest in the stock market"-used to draw a large number of visitors to the fair. But this year, the organizers will hold such book campaigns.
Not that people have lost interest in such books, but the organizers announced that the mission was to guide the public toward "reading good books and in-depth reading".
From Aug 19-25, the 12th Shanghai Book Fair will be held at Shanghai Exhibition Center, where more than 500 publishing houses from all over China are expected to participate, and more than 150,000 books are likely to be showcased.
The fair received more than 300,000 visitors last year, says Xu Jiong, director of the municipal administration's department of news and publications.
