As the first original opera production by the Beijing troupe, which was founded in 1978, Dujuan Mountain was adapted from the modern Peking Opera piece with the same title. It tells the story of a small army of peasants in the Dujuan Mountain area, southwest of Jiangxi province, who were influenced by the 1927 Autumn Harvest Uprising, a movement led by Mao Zedong.
Written by Xu Ying and Hu Die, composed by Zheng Bing and directed by Wang Xianping, the production combines Western operatic singing with Peking Opera singing.
Soprano Han Yanwen played the leading role.
The production on Sunday and Monday also starred Wu Chunyan, Jin Zhengjian and Guo Jianchao.
