Guiyang Power Plant's chimney was dismantled on December 31. The chimney, 240 meters high, was one of the highest chimneys brought down through demolition blasting in China.
The demolition was part of an important measure to close down outdated production facilities in Guiyang and carry forward industrial structural transformation. More importantly, the demolition will beautify the urban landscape and improve the image of the city.

Through the demolition, Guizhou will reduce 242 tons of dust emissions, 2,021 tons of oxy-nitride emissions, 62,962 tons of sulfur dioxide discharges, and more than 700,000 tons of coal consumption per year.
"A new power plant with low pollution emissions will be built at a more appropriate place in Guiyang after the old one is completely closed down," said Zhao Jiabin, director of the Guiyang Power Plant.
Zhao said: "The newly-built power plant will be located in Zhijin county, Guizhou province. It will be equipped with two thermal power generating units that can produce 600MW of electricity by 2015."
