Tianhe-I, the first supercomputer invented in China which can perform one more than quadrillion calculations per second, is now being developed to provide core competitiveness in various industrial fields.
Entering the Tianhe-I generator room in the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area, people can see more than 140 black computer cabinets standing neatly in lines. It was in this room that the China's first supercomputer, which crowned the global supercomputer TOP 500 List, was born.

Liu Guangming, director of the National Supercomputer Center in Tianjin, said the most outstanding feature of Tianhe-I is its super calculating ability, which can perform 2.57 quadrillion calculations per second and peaks at 4.7 quadrillion per second.
In other words, one hour's calculation by Tianhe-I equals the total work of 1.3 billion people calculating for 340 years.
