NEW YORK - A smoky fire broke out in a Manhattan subway line Friday afternoon and forced more than 500 passengers to evacuate.
Fire officials said the smoky fire began in the area of an electrical vault in a tunnel at the subway station of J, M and Z lines of lower East Side of Manhattan.
The fire is now under control and there has been no report of injury so far.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said the incident was reported around 2:50 pm, and the nearby stations have been suspended so that firefighters could clear the smoke in the tunnel.
