When Ayom Koch left war town South Sudan to neighboring Kenya in search of education, all she wanted was a peaceful learning environment. The shy 13-year old girl has found this and much more as she became one of the first beneficiaries of the Spring Bud Scholarship award.

Launched on Thursday at Kilimani Primary School, about half-an hour drive from downtown Nairobi, the Jiangsu Business Development Association in Kenya has entered into a five-year partnership with the public school. The award will be given to outstanding pupils and teachers every year.

Besides a financial donation, the business association also presented clothing and mosquito nets to the school that hosts about 1,500 students. Though located in uptown area, the government-supported school has drawn pupils from surrounding low-income areas.
