Art beat in July

One world, many ideas

One World, One Dream, is the title of Wang Qingsong's current solo show and also the name of a sculpture he just finished before the opening. He drew logos of the Fortune 500 companies and wrote down names of the world's leading universities on a gigantic blackboard in colorful chalk. The work (pictured below) makes the comment that with globalization, human society encounters more problems and contradictions, and so it's difficult to realize "one dream".

Gamers make live concert

Video Games Live, a music concert series created and produced by industry veterans and video game makers, will return to Beijing five years after its China debut. The live concert, which premiered in 2005, is performed by a live orchestra and accompanied by videos and lighting. It celebrates the popular music of video games, such as Warcraft, Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy.

Fantasy world

Artist Huang Wei has built an intriguing fantasy world in her paintings currently on show at Kui Yuan Gallery until Aug 10. With meticulous brushwork and sophisticated colors, Huang presents a fantasy journey of a woman who is dressed in ancient Chinese attire and accompanied by animals. According to the curator, the artist expresses women's subtle desire for love and lust in the paintings.
