People's Daily, the official newspaper of the ruling Communist Party of China, conducted a survey on the Internet about howto strictly manage officials and received more than 4,000 valid responses.
The results show that more than half of the respondents believe the most important thing the authorities should address is the working style of government officials. And almost half of the respondents think some officials are corrupt and irresponsible in their work. As to how to manage the officials, almost two-thirds of them expect the authorities to strengthen their supervision. And about half of those surveyed suggest the authorities should be stricter in selecting officials. More than one-third of the interviewees demanded a better accountability system for officials.
About two-thirds of the interviewees think "listening to the public" and "guaranteeing the transparent and open exercising of power" would be conducive to managing officials strictly.
