MANILA - A powerful magnitude 6.2 earthquake jolted the Southern Philippine Island of Mindanao at 12:37 local time on Saturday, the website of United States Geological Survey ( USGS) said.

According to the USGS, the quake, with a depth of 98.2 km, was monitored around 12:37 pm about 28 kilometers southeast of Caburan, Davao del Sur Province.

It is reported that the quake was also felt in the cities of Davao, Cotabato and parts of South Cotabato province; however, there were no immediate reports of casualties and destruction.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake's epicenter was recorded in waters 30 kilometers east of Sarangani province and there has been no tsunami alert warning in the area yet.
