[china.org.cn:] The central government’s strategy to “rejuvenate the northeastern industrial base” is a great opportunity for the development of the northeastern provinces. How does Changchun comprehend and seize this opportunity?

[Mr Mayor:] Major strategies usually bring about major changes. The rapid development of Shenzhen and Shanghai Pudong New Area can be largely attributed to the preferential policies offered by the central government. The strategy to rejuvenate Northeast China is another major strategic decision following the opening-up of the coastal areas and the go-west campaign.

[The mayor:] The strategy also contributes to the reform of State-owned enterprises. The State has helped reduce the burden of the enterprises and sharpen their competitive edge. The strategy has also helped Changchun get a number of projects from the central government. Fifteen of our industrial projects that use national debt and 18 hi-tech projects have received the central government’s approval; these projects are sure to further drive Changchun’s development.
