[chinadaily.com.cn:] The cooperation between the First Automotive Works Corp and Volkswagen is a model for Sino-foreign co-operation. Is there any further cooperation between Changchun and Germany?

[Mr Mayor:] Germany has been one of our important investment-and-trade partners for long time. Since Volkswagen first invested in Changchun in 1991, there have been 53 Germany-invested companies in Changchun. The whole investment has reached a total US.2 billion up to 2004. Twenty-one of the companies are engaged in auto parts industry, whose total investment reaches US.09 billion.

[Mr Mayor:] When German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder visited Changchun at the end of 2004, it opened a door for fresh Changchun-Germany co-operation. The Federation of German Industries and Trade plans to organize more than 50 of German’s enterprises to visit Changchun this April, who the federation will introduce Changchun’s auto industry to.

[Mr Mayor:] China and Germany have also strengthened bilateral co-operation in the scientific field. A Sino-German scientific co-operation base will be set up in Changchun. Besides, Changchun will send a group to an auto parts market promotion meeting in Germany, aiming to co-operate with Germany in more fields, such as agriculture and petrochemical.
