Sports: Football
Hampden Park is Scotland's national stadium. Ranked as one of the greatest football stadia in the world, it holds all major European records for crowd attendance.
Hampden Park regularly hosts the semi-finals and finals of major cup competitions, as well as music concerts and other sporting events. The stadium will host eight games in the Olympic Football tournament, five women's matches and three men's.
The design and build
Having celebrated its centenary on 31 October 2003, Hampden Park recently underwent a £70m refurbishment and is now rated as a five-star venue by UEFA, the governing body of European Football.
After the Games
For the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, Hampden Park will be transformed into an international standard track and field facility by implementing an innovative building technique that uses a solid in-fill to raise the playing surface.
As well as hosting the Athletics competition at Glasgow 2014 – including the start and finish of the Marathon – Hampden Park will provide the stage for the Closing Ceremony.
