CPC official to attend Olympics opening ceremony

BEIJING - Liu Qi, a senior official of the Communist Party of China and former Party secretary of the Chinese capital, will attend the opening ceremony of the upcoming 30th Olympic Games.
Liu left Beijing for London on Wednesday.
Liu, now a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and also deputy director of the Central Commission for Guiding Ethic and Cultural Progress, makes the visit at the invitation of the International Olympic Committee.
Liu served as president of the Beijing Organizing Committee of the 29th Olympic Games four years ago, and the IOC awarded Liu the Olympic Order in Gold in recognition of his hard work to make the Games successful.
